[digg-me]Here’s some more info on the new delicious audio player that has replaced the older Play Tagger

Yahoo! Media PlayerAfter Techcrunch picked up and amplified my small discovery Ian Rogers, former GM of Yahoo! Music, has provided some background. In Goose, Delicious Goose he revealed that Delicious is actually using Yahoo!’s In-Page Media Player which was the brainchild of Lucas Gonze who he brought into Yahoo! three years ago and that it took quite a while to get the company’s approval and then actually build it.

Rogers also notes that

It’s very cool in that it is a single line of javascript and reads simple, easy to author, HTML on the page to create the play buttons. The page author needs only add the single line of javascript, then wrap an MP3 link in an href and voila, you have an inline player. Note that the latest Foxytunes player also inserts this player in the page in a Greasemonkey sort of way. […]

If you actually want proof that Delicious is using the Yahoo! Media Player you just need a peek in the del.icio.us html source code. You won’t find the official
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/js"></script>
line but there are two lines

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://l.yimg.com/hr/10374/js/delicious2-fe-us.js"></script>
<!--[if IE]>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://l.yimg.com/hr/10374/js/del-ie.js"></script>
<![endif]-->

which provide the functionality.
I tried the scripts on boo.kmark.it and they popped up an exact copy of the Delicious player.

Oh, and by the way, the old Play Tagge javascript, which is I find more discrete, still works fine. :)

Update: Delicious has confirmed and explained its use of the technology on the official blog, echoed by the Yahoo! Music blog
